About this site
Scope and architecture
This site is an annotated bibliographic and clinical reading directory of 146 books across 8 traditions and 6 historical eras (1621 to the present) in psychotherapy, counselling, psychiatry, and lived mental health experience. Each entry explains what a book is, its historical and clinical context, its core arguments, who it may suit, and where its limits lie. It is part of the wider Therapy101 educational reference family.
Entries span five rhetorical forms: foundational clinical and theoretical monographs, structured treatment manuals and clinical guides, client self-help workbooks, cultural and historical critiques of psychiatric institutions, and first-person memoirs, clinical tales, and teaching novels.
Academic pairings and claim mapping
Entries contain 220 source-mapped claims and 481 source records. The relevance and accuracy of these pairings still require review.
A book or an individual study cannot by itself establish the effectiveness of an approach.
What this site does not do
It does not rate books, rank titles, review books commercially, or claim that one therapeutic approach works better than another. It does not diagnose, recommend a treatment, match people with therapists, or offer crisis support. It carries no affiliate links or commercial sponsorships.
If you are in distress, contact a qualified health professional or your local emergency or crisis service.
Review status
This site is an unpublished educational draft. Bibliographic details, source descriptions, clinical statements and cover rights require further checking. Every entry is pending specialist subject review.
How details are checked
The intended process is to check authors, titles, editions, dates and ISBNs against publisher and library records, and to check the scope of each source against the claims it is said to support. This work remains incomplete.
The sources and citations page lists the source records supplied with each entry, and the chronological timeline orders all 146 books by first publication year.
